April Gardening Jobs

Spring is finally in motion and we have now reached April. It is important that we start to think about the many different tasks that need to be completed to ensure your garden is looking its best throughout spring and summer. Take a look at our guide to see what we recommend should be done this month. 

General Tasks For April

• Weed growth will be a lot more noticeable and appropriate weed control should be applied where needed
• See the different weed control options we have available here 
  

Lawns / Turfed Areas

• Look out for weed invasions in your lawn - a suitable selective weed killer should be applied to target the weeds and leave the grass unharmed 
• See our range of selective weed killers here
• Increase how often you are mowing your grass. You should also be able to start mowing the lawn a little lower than you have been (weather permitting)
  
• Apply a fertiliser that is suitable for this time of year
  
• We would recommend using A1 Lawn’s Spring/Summer Fertiliser 
  
• Keep on top of controlling moss that is present within the lawn

• Overseed any bare patches within the lawn to prevent weeds from growing in these areas

Trees, Shrubs and Hedges

• Ensure that you are watering newly planted trees and shrubs and applying suitable fertiliser such as Amvista Arbor Gold 
• Planting of conifers and broadleaved evergreen hedges can commence 

Beds and Borders

• Re-plant summer flowering plants
• We would advise that you use Maxicrop Complete for seaweed and fertiliser energy in one product 
• Make sure beds and borders are kept tidy and in order 
• Cut lavender back to the new leaves and thin our any dead leaves
